Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries received several wage complaints against Melquist. Four workers stuck to the task and pushed their cases forward. Melquist refused to even show up for the hearing. On February 14, 2006, the BOLI finding verified what the union organizers had been saying all along — that Melquist owed the workers substantial sums of money. The finding only covered four workers, but even that amounted to nearly forty thousand dollars.
